Haystacks
Kids enjoy making their own meals, and they’ll
have lots of fun preparing this fresh, tasty dish.
You’ll need to provide a bag of corn chips,
shredded cheddar cheese, canned chili, shredded
lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced olives, sour cream
and salsa.
To make a haystack, crush a handful of corn
chips on a plate. Spoon a layer of warmed chili
over the chips and add cheese, lettuce, tomatoes
and olives. Top the haystack with a dollop
of sour cream. Enjoy!
Rainbow Punch
Create a drink that's as much fun to make
as it is to drink! Freeze several of
your child's
favorite Kool-Aid® flavors (berry,
orange, lemon, lime, grape, etc.) in
ice cube trays.
(Fill trays 1/2-full so more cubes will
fit in each glass.) At serving time,
place ice
cubes in a large bowl and let the kids
fill their cups with their choice of
colored cubes.
Then pour lightly-colored soda into each
child's glass. Your guests will be delighted
with the rainbow of colors! Biscuit Bears
Show your guests just how much you care with
this wonderful recipe! You will need vegetable
spray, four packages of refrigerator biscuits,
raisins, and poppy seeds (or sesame seeds).
Divide each package of biscuits in half, and
knead each portion. (You’ll have 8 equals
portions of dough.) Separate each portion into
the following parts: 1 large ball for a body;
1 small ball for head; 7 smaller balls for
ears, hands, feet, and a nose.
Spray a baking sheet with vegetable spray
(or cover with foil) and set each body on it.
Place a head above each body, and add ears,
hands, feet, and nose. Poke raisins in the
center of the ears and the nose. Make eyes
and a belly button. Sprinkle bodies with poppy
or sesame seeds to make “fur,” if
desired. Bake according to package directions
until golden brown. Set aside to cool. Send
the kids home with their own bears, or involve
them in making these tasty treats. Enjoy!
Caring Cupcakes
Your guests will love these cute cupcakes that
look just like their favorite bears! To begin,
bake 2 dozen cupcakes according to package
directions, or use your own recipe. When
they are cool, remove the liners.
Make 6 cups of white frosting and divide it
into 6 equal portions. Use food coloring to
tint each portion a different color to represent
a different Care Bear.
To assemble a cupcake bear, frost the top
of a cupcake. On the top of it, place an unfrosted
cupcake upside-down, securing it with a toothpick.
Frost both cupcakes with the same color you
used to hold the two cupcakes together. (Frost
both cupcakes completely.)
Break small, round cookies (vanilla wafers,
Oreos®, etc.) into halves and press them
into the top cupcake (bear’s head) to
make ears. Use additional halves to make arms
if you wish. Frost ears and arms to match the
rest of your Care Bear.
Use chocolate chips, m&m’s®,
or other small candies of your choice to make
eyes, a nose and a mouth. Use additional candies
to make rainbows, hearts, etc. on the bears’ tummies.
(Makes 12 bears.)
